    confused Vec/Sig 1.9 CDTi 150 - General Problems

Hi All, sorry if this has already been covered, shoot me down

Myself, have been dying to buy a vectra C with this engine for a long time, hopefully in the next few weeks, the funds will be there.

Reading about the car, there seems to be a few horror stories with reagrds to DMF's, etc, problems like that......

To help me and other potential buyers, could we cover some of the problems in one thread ? If that makes sense ? lol

Anything under the bonnet pretty much covers it for the 1.9CDTi.

    Vehicle : Golf 7

    Trim : GTD

    Engine : 2.0 TDI 184PS

    Year : 2014

    Mileage : 40000

Dual Mass Flywheel - Check for this when you go and look at a car; Start the engine, put the car in neutral and press the clutch as if hold ing it on the biting point, there will be a chattering sound - quite distinctive. Get the garage to sort it before you buy it or walk away it could cost £1500.

Swirl Valves and EGR valves are other ones too.

Not forgetting the general issues of snapped springs, hand brake failures, windows opening by themselves........

Although some will swear the 1.9 is a very good engine as its the shear number of them out there that means there are more to go wrong.

I honestly believe the 1.9 is one of 2 things, very very good or very very very bad

Mine had noisy tappets at 45k too. Sounded like an old 200k redtop with no oil.

remember forums are places where people come a lot for help or to moan so they aren't necessarily representative of actual ratio of problems. If taxi driver's buy them, they can't be all bad. I know a couple of guys who have Vectras with work and do 30k a year with no problems.

Swirl valves can be fixed for a quid EGR valve isn't hugely expensive.

I would go for it, love the 150 engine.

I want one! Doesnt sound too bad, all thease points are very true, there are a lot of them around, every car has its faults.

Will the DMF be covered under warranty ?

    I have had 4 1.9 CDTi 150's, and do 30,000 miles a year.

My first had the swirl flaps looked at when it had done 64000 miles, and were activated by tech 2 to loosen them off, and at 92000 miles now, it is still running strong. This was ordered in February 2004 by me new and was almost a '53' plate, according to a guy on Astra Sport who works at Ellsmere Port, mine was the 2nd 1.9 ever built at the plant!

I have been fortunate enough not to have had one EGR fault on any of my cars.

    I rate the engine alot.
