Got new pads and disks fitted about 3-4 weeks ago and have driven approx 500 miles since then. The brakes look like they have fully bedded in as the surface of the disks are now free from the original marks. Got them done at local garage and they used Vauxhall parts.
When I got the car back, I had to push the pedal fairly hard before anything happened but I assumed it was due to the fact the brakes were bedding in.
Having driven 500 miles or so since then, the brakes are not much better. They feel dull and not as sharp as they used to be. If I jump on them the car doesn't stop as well as it used to (ABS rarely comes on whereas it used to be fairly frequent if roads were atall slippy).
If I push pedal hard, the brakes are relatively sharp the next time I push them. At rest I can pump the pedal up but it does creep back down but I assume this is normal Diesel creep and I think it's always doesn that.
When I got the car a few years ago, the brakes were amazing (I regularly drive another car so can compare against each other). They stopped the car when still in the "soft" part of the pedal. Now have to push into the "firm" part of pedal travel if that makes sense.
Any thoughts? Could I have burned the brake surface when bedding them in?
Cheers.
Ali.
