    Default Diesel question Vectra/Insignia

I've posted this in the insignia forum too - but just in case I have put it here...

Being generally a petrolhead - (I have a Signum 2.2 petrol direct) I am considering an Insignia 130 diesel. I drove the 1.8 petrol and it was a bit underpowered however a drive in the 130 impressed me - it seemed not far behind the pull of my Signum.

Anyhoo - the question is, as I think this is a new engine and not a carry over of the Vectra engine, does the team think (or know of) any easy engine mods or tweeks that will improve the performance.
E.G. is it the same engine as the Insignia 160 but with a different ECU/mapping ?

The 2 new 2.0 CDTi engiens int he Insignia are a direct development of the current 1.9 CDTi, the only difference is that both the 130 and 160PS engines are 16v where the 1.9 120 was an 8v.

The basic's of the engine are the same, the capacity has changed of course :-

    1.9 120 and 150 being 1910cc
    2.0 130 and 160 being 1956cc

EGR has been re-designed and relocated to a different position on the engine and the inlet manifold and swirl flap arrangement has been re-designed. These were the two main area's that effected some of the 1.9's.

The engine has a stronger turbo and of course the engine management is far more advanced.

To tell the difference between the two engines, the 130PS has a chrome 'CDTi' and the 160PS is the same with a black 'Ti', apparently the 2.0 twin turbo diesel with have either a red 'Ti' or a complete black 'CDTi'

The word from an insider at Vauxhall is that the 2.0 CDTi will be very good for tuning by all accounts, time will tell, if the 130PS is the same as the 160PS but with different mapping, this could be the car to have if future re-maps take both engines to the 200PS mark.
