    Im on tiscali unlimited, 8mb connection, but i can only get 500k download speeds max.. Not good (and in shetland this is as good as it gets withouut moving next to the exchange)

    The problem with these sigtes is that there are alot of users doing the same as you, so it will be limited by that servers bandwidth, and even worse if it is peer to peer.

    Also at different time of the day will determine the download speed. For example ISP's will inpose 'CAPS' to slow down downloads, this will be part of any package. This because basically BB is available to 99.999% of the population and the WWW is really struggling.

    The other issue is when you say download or access the internet at 5pm, the USA is already up and working and sapping some of the WWW servers bandwidths.

    The last thing is if you are wireless then that too imposes restrictions.

    If you really want to know your download speed the besst time is 7am on a Weekday morning.

    can also be down to the config of the network adaptor/wireless card. I was getting a speed of 600kb when I first had my 20mb Virgin connection installed. Made a few complaints and they suggested tcp optimizer whic is a small free program and sorted it out great.
