rolleyes Hadn't been planning to, but ended up buying two new consoles at the weekend!

Following on from this thread, I ended up ordering the Xbox 360 Elite console to upgrade from my 20Gb one. Ordered it on Friday from Amazon and it arrived Saturday.

I'd been kicking myself initially as I'd 'dithered' in ordering it at the beginning of the week with one thing and another and when I came to order it it'd gone back up from £190 to £210 for the console part.

However, by dithering I actually ended up with a better deal. They still had the WEP pack (white wireless controller and Lego Indy Jones and Kung Fu Panda) for a tenner so got that. They also had the Resident Evil WEP where you got a black controller and RE5 for a tenner (how the hell do they manage to sell it at that price?). RE5 hadn't struck me as my sort of game but even if I didn't like it, a tenner for a black wireless controller was still a bargain and I could always trade RE5 in.

So it all duly arrived and I got it all cabled up and wired in and fired up RE5 and as i thought it wasn't my cup of tea. I like first person shooters but all the zombies, blood and guts isn't my preference for a game really - so off I went to Game to trade it in. As it had only been released the day before it must've been one of the fastest trade-ins Anyway, I got £25 trade-in for it so in the end (taking that into account) I got the Elite console, extra white wireless controller (plus the two games) and black wireless controller for £205 - only a fiver more than the package I was going to get earlier in the week when the console was £20 less, so the black controller basically ended up costing me only a fiver. Happy man.

One thing I wanted the Elite/120Gb drive for was to be able to transfer the games to the hard drive for much quieter operation. It is sooooo much quieter with that method, so when the volume is turned down to not disturb sleeping babies and wife upstairs, I can still hear the sound without the console sat there whoosing away. Bliss.

Not to be outdone, Mrs D had always toyed with getting a Wii and we were in Tescos on Sunday. We had almost £100 in Clubcard vouchers so decided to stick those towards it and walked out with a Wii! Now got it all wired in and Mrs D now happy as well.

Now we just have to 'fight' over which console gets turned on when we have some game time.

Well the other one is up in the bedroom - looks like the Wii is moving then! I'll stick with the plasma downstairs.

Its good to treat yourself now and again, also if your social life is anything like mine at the moment(young kids) the gaming is the highlight of the week

Ah i did not know you could do this with the 360 elite - now this put's a different spin on it for me as i tried a 360 premium and after being used to the quietness of the PS3 it was like having a bag of bolt's spinning away
    Tempted, very tempted!

Excellent! Reminds me of the day last year I got the okay to buy a wii - went into zavvi and bought a wii and then bought two nintendo ds as they were such a good deal altogether with extra off paying with the virgin credit card!

Have two telly's but still fight as everything is set up on the plasma downstairs - wii fit or guitar hero, mario & sonic or burnout paradise, cooking mama or gears of war 2.

Still, can have some peace and quiet on the laptop or clean the car whilst they're playing...

lol, yeah - once Cameron and Mrs D are in bed it's nice to kick back and mess around on the Xbox. I'd 'lost interest' lately which was mainly down to finding it hard to hear the sound well enough without having it turned up too much - due to the noise of the console. That's now sorted - veeery quiet gaming now.

It's not only the Elite that does it - any 360 with a hard drive will let you do that as it's a feature of the new dashboard. It's just that the Elite, or 120Gb drive, lets you put the most games on.

lol, exactly. Both consoles now set up on the plasma - best place to get the best out of them TBH. Shouldn't be too many as I'll stick the Xbox on later in the evening and Wii will be early evening if Mrs D is fancying a game - or even Xbox as she does like a bit of Halo 2/3 and other games.

Nice - my lad (who is 4) is keen on a Wii, for the sports games, and I think MrsT is a secret fan of Guitar Hero - will get the move over with first. I've a gaming laptop with a full HD screen (1900x1220 - even 1080p HD gets letterboxed), so stuff like FPS and flight sims are on that - always fancied a PS3 as the main living room console though; a mate had one at the centre of his media system, streaming stuff wirelessly from his home server - it seems a bit limiting just to call them games consoles any more!
