    Default Getting radio out?

Does anyone know how i can remove the radio in my 03 vec dti, i've got an annoying rattle behind the dash and that looks the only way i can get into it.

To remove the radio, there are 4 tiny allen bolts which you need to unscrew and remove first. Then you'll need a set of pullers to disengage the clips that hold the radio in, you pick these up from Halfrauds for a couple of quid: note you'll need the double size ones. Use these in the holes left by the allen bolts, push them in until they click then pull the unit out.

Another easy way to get in the dash area is to remove the glove box. This is held in place by 6 torx screws and just drops out when they are removed. Handy to remember this when putting the radio back as it'll let you get behind the radio to guide the cables back into place.

Edit: Best to disconnect the negative (-) terminal of the battery if you plan to disconnect the radio.

What he just said. Nothing to add, he covered it all!

Edit (just saw his edit! ) If you're just pulling the radio out to sort out rattling etc., and not working on any of the wiring itself, you probably don't need to disconnect the battery as the radio will just disconnect itself from the power when you pull it forward. I've removed my radio umpteen times without disconnecting the battery and it's never been a problem.

Quite right Duncan, I was forgetting that the VX double din/single din adaptors contain the wiring plugs. GM radios don't tend to last long in my cars!

It'll have to be a small hammer as there's not much room in there!

Wasn't there something about tightening the screws either side of the transmission tunnel or am I dreaming again? Give it a go.... Have a look in the car, you'll see what I mean.

Just a thought..... I had a rattle on my car (kinda metallic rattle) and I was absolutley convinced that it was coming from inside the radio/cd changer.

Finally traced it to the nut that secures this trim....

It was ever so slightly loose and vibrating, but the sound carried right through and sounded like it was coming out of the HU area!! Might be worth checking that nut (both sides)?
