    Default Diesel fuel filter

    Hi,
has anyone changed a diesel fuel filter on a 109 cdti 120 vectra, if so is it a challenge or straight forward, the haynes book says you need a special tool to unscrew the top off. Would a strap wrench do the business.

    Cheers

    or large mole grips/adjustable spanner.
The element sits inside the plastic housing..easy to replace...bit messy though :-)

Thanks for the help guys, Tadpole do you know which clips are prone to breaking, is it the ones that hold the fuel lines into the filter top ?.

    Cheers

Is it possible to renew the filter element on the 1.9 diesel without removing the whole filter assembly? i.e just remove the pipes, unscrew the top and slot a new filter element in?

if its the same filter as a 30cdti or a 20dti then u need a torque bit undo the bolt in the top remove pipes u need to close the clips up to remove pipes un plug sensor plug and lift the top of remove and replace filter and all orings that come in filter kit . fit new filter in housing and top up housing with fuel refit top and do up bolt refit pipes and start car but keep it reving until it runs ok then check for leaks . the reason u fill the filter housing is so u get rid of as much air as possible other wise u will need a hand primer to get it going

Sounds a lot like the 1.9 setup. Its topping up the filter thats the problem - I'll have to get a can of diesel from the garage or syphon some off from the tank!
