Get yourself logged on to www.detailingworld.co.uk and you will get loads of good tips. Main starting point is to wash it properly - two buckets, one with your wash solution and one with plain water for rinsing your wash mitt. Use a sheepskin wash mitt rather than a sponge to prevent scratching. Order a Eurow wash mitt from Clean & Shiny (see above site traders section) as they are lovely and soft. Also dry with a Meguiars water magnet or similar. Then worth getting a Meguiars quick clay kit to clean contaminents off the paintwork. That lot will get the car clean. There are then loads of different products to get it shining nicely but you could do worse than get the Meguiars Deep Crystal System 1,2&3 as a starting point. I'm going to take all my gear to PVS with me so you can have a look at a few different products.

No probs mate. Just be careful - that site can have quite a damaging effect on your wallet.

Steven i am new as well and have been on detailing world spending a fortune. checkout this site www.polishedbliss.com its a guy from aberdeen or our own clean and shiney. great how to's on his site and excellent servicefrom both. it is an addictive site though i have spent a small fortune on there.

I started on my bonnet over the weekend.
    - washed it with sonax high gloss shampoo ( bargain at £2 for 1ltr )
    - clayed bonnet
    - used some sctratch x to get rid of a bit that was keyed
    - polished with mezerna finishing touchII ( 1 coat ) cleaner polish
    - polished with 1 coat of a mezerna pure polish (forgot name )
    - 2x coats of megs sealant
    - 1 coat of carnaba wax

Very time consuming but only plan to do this every 4-6 months just going to wash and top up wax in between.
