New gearbox

I have a 2002 Vectra C 1.8 manual. It goes in gears fine no crunching at all , when driving from cold its fine . But when its warmed up im getting a grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr noise , especially in 4th and 5th . 5th gear is awefull , its so embaressing on the motorway . If I lift off the throttle it stops making the noise .

Someone told me the gearbox bearings are on their way out . Its not under warranty anymore . and by the way the car has done 108,000 miles now .

Well my car is back , its dented a big hole in the old bank account now I can tell you !

Had to have new gearbox and complete clutch assembley , the old gearbox main shaft had a hole in one of the teeth . Plus when the car was serviced at Vauxhall last , apparently it was using the wro ng gearbox oil ! !

Ill be digging the reciepts out shortly , phoning Vaux tomorrow and complane like crazy ! ! !

Just had the car back yesterday , Vectra C new shape 2002 1.8 manual after having a recon gearbox and complete new clutch . When driving home yesterday it felt Okish , but today when driving most of the day in town I am getting the same grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr noise as before when it went in the garage . Also now getting a noise when idling which goes when I press in the clutch pedal .

The most annoying thing is , I can get hold of the garage that did the work . Should I worry , or is the paperwork which the guarantee is written on a load of rubbish . Where do I stand here please ?? Please help me .

Sounds like a thrust bearing.... had the same sort of noise on my 1994 Astra F.

Should be an easy warranty fix for a main dealer.

Take it back and demand that it's fixed!

Sounds like they haven't done the job properly, if you have any trouble I would give your local trading standards people a call. If you've paid a grand you should expect it to be 'Rolls Royce'!
