Vectra C SRi - 1.8 v 2.2 Engines.

Hello All
Ive been searching through previous threads but couldnt really find any definate answers, basically im in the market for a vectra c.

Ive decided im going for the Petrol SRi Spec, BUT.......Which Engine 1.8 or 2.2?

Basically im looking at reliabilty, mpg, insuance, And any preferences owners have. Cheers for any reply's.

The 1.8VVT is 140PS, and the 2.2 DIRECT is 155PS, but although both engines are very reliable the 1.8 has the edge here on the 2.2 and is still quite punchy.

Also looking at it from this point of view, the 1.8 is more powerful per litre (78PS/ltr) than the 2.2 (71PS/ltr).

Not sure on the 1.8 but my insurance is lower with the 2.2 Direct than it was with a 2.0 'B' Depends on age etc HTH ......................

Got the 1.8 had the car over 2 years now and had no probs it just had 1st mot and sailed through .

Hi. Do you find it ok, powerwise, my biggest concern is the power to weight ratio. Does the 1.8 cope ok with the c's weight?

hi mate ive got a 2.2 direct automatic and the power is very good there is very few cars that i have not beaten ive had 143mph out of it and im very impressed so i say get the 2.2

Just to add to the debate,

I got my 2.2 about 3 weeks ago, previously had a 2.5v6 sport - and the C spec is way beyond my expectations.

I shared your concerns about the 1.8, had one of those on a 'Y' reg and didn't fancy it in this. However the 2.2 is really quick, only done 120 so far, but I enjoy it immensely. The engine is very quite, sound is uninspiring, but it delivers, and that's what matters. Fuel consumption, 6th gear, cruise control, all just icing on the cake to me. If it has a downside, i'd point to the double exhaust, maybe costly in time.

Decision made, go drive!

got a quote from vauxhall for twin exhaust last week, 282 for n/s box, 232 for o/s box and 197 for centre section, get stainless one, its cheaper...

I've got a 1.8 and can't fault it... It's not a performance car of course, but it's got more than enough pull in it for normal driving.

I tested the 1.8 and 2.2 prior to getting my 2.2. Quite a difference in terms of power/torque, love the 2x exhausts, 6th gear - Great engine. The 1.8 just felt a bit wheezy with the Veccy's weight.
