Default Aghhhh. Where do I stand with this?

My 2006 06 Vectra 1.9CDTi 150 originally bought on the 10th March 2006 kicked the car with a spanner light on this morning. I left home, got to the place I was going and parked for 10 minutes then started the drive home, turned out of the carpark, up to some lights turned left and had very little power and the turbo wasn't opperating. I stoped switched everything off and tried again but the light came back on.

Yesterday my Mum was driveing my Dad's Astra 1.7CDti and the engine management kicked in on that also and it went in to limp mode. She stopped and phoned the AA as mum's do. The AA advised her to stop the engine and restart and it has been ok since.

Dad's will be a warenty job no problem but mine is now 5 days out of warenty. I know the ins and outs of consumer law etc so I know that items should last a reasonable lenght of time and I don't beleive a car costing nearly £20000 should just last 3 years. I hope the dealership is going to sort this out for me on vauxhalls tab.

So whats the process? take it to the dealer and ask them to fix it under warrenty or phone vauxhall and ask them to instruct the dealership to fix it under warrenty? or should I just wait to see what the dealership says? It had the EGR valve done a month of so ago I sort of hoped that would be all the known problem sorted out, Ive had the other problems sorted.

Just to top the weekend off yesterday I was replaceing the spare with the alloy on my sisters corsa and the ****** locking wheel bolt key disintegrated on the 2nd time it has been used the first time was putting the spare on the night before.

I would contact the dealer - if no joy and I suspect you wont have much success, contact Vx, then Trading Standards/VOSA.

funny you should say that because i went to my dealers about something and my car had just turned 5 y6ears old and he said i should expect a few more faults as these are rarely built to last more than 3-4 years gobsmacked was the understatement and i went on to tell him what a load of rubbish that was and if thats the case vauxhall should never make another car again

a part of me thinks he was trying to get me to part ex mine for a new one!!!

good luck with what you need them to do but i think you will be lucky if they cough up!! maybe pay for part of the bill is what they would offer

The expected life span of a car by design is about 10 years, that's normal anyway. So why the guy (who clearly hasn't been anywhere near to car design / development) says 3-4 is slightly annoying.

Did the dealer just clean the EGR or replace it?

if the fault returns and is the egr valve again then customer care can clearly see there is a history of problems with the fault - and should contribute/pay for the repair - makes me think that there is an inherent fault in the design/manufacture of the egr valve and was it fitted with one of the same and not a modified type?

    hope it gets sorted gratis

When I got in this morning to take it to the dealership the emissions light was on and no engine management light. I phoned the garage that serviced it to check they had drained the diesel filter when it was serviced last month and he said take it down and they would hook it up to their computer. I'm not sure what code it read but the screen said swirl valve mis position or something like that. Now when I had the egr problem all the searches came up with swirl valve possibility or EGR valve so I'm hoping it is a related problem and will be fixed under warranty as the original problem occurred under warranty when I took it and they did the EGR I asked them to check the swirl valve aswell.

As its out of warenty I have been quoted £800 to sort it out and its the intake manifold (swirl valve) problem. I got a quick look at the parts sheet and it had 2 expensive parts on there the intake manifold and the valve intake manifold are they not the same thing?

They are going to speak the VX in the morning to look for a goodwill gesture regarding the bill. If I don't get one I will be takeing it elsewhere at that price.
