    Default Where to place Savings

Obviously the banks are paying a pittance for savers ... but need the saver's money to fuel the mortgage / lending market

So, where else can savvy savers place their dough Not under the bed !!

Anyone know any good deals and returns on savings? minimal risk.

How much you got to invest? Bigger lumps = bigger interest.

At present, up to £5k, I'd go for the Post Office but no doubt others will disagree.

Also have a quick look at this site http://www.itpaystowatch.co.uk/

cash ISA, find the best rate you can, no tax on the interest. you may find one for 4% or so, not going to get rich on that of course. if you've already got one of those, then if you can leave it alone fond a 12 month fixed rate deal, again, if you look carefully you may find something that gives 3 to 4%.
if you're brave, you could buy some shares making the assumption things can't get much lower.

bonds? Their is no risk and you could win big. The chances of that aren't likely admitedly, but my mum has a lot in them and her winnings on average are better than bank account interest.

My Mum and Dad are into Premium Bonds and as said your money is safe but will not gain interest but you have the chance every month of winning big money and the smallest payout is £50.00 but there is no limit on how many wins you can have. The safest way at the moment I reckon with banks having money problems and shares at rock bottom
