Default Safe to use second hand power steering pump?

Hi Guys....great forum. Been a memeber here for a while absorbing the knowedge but unfortunatley its time for my first question!

To cut a long story short, I need a new power steering pump. As some of you know, a new pump costs a whopping £605 plus VAT from Vauxhall!!

After a few calls to a couple of breakers, I have located a used unit at a considerably cheaper price. I mentioned this to Vauxhall and surprisingly, they said they would fit the used part for me (which I did not expect!). However, they did try to talk me out of it and said that if the old power steering pump was not removed from the old car using Tech2, the pump could not be fitted and matched to my car, as the old pump would not 'unlock' itself from the old car. They mentioned Canbus quite a few times????

After searching around on the forum, I can see that an old pump can be fitted to different cars and a Tech2 session is not needed to 'match it up'. However, are they correct when they say it needs to be removed using Tech2, to allow it to be fitted with no problems??

Just worried about buying this pump from the breakers, only to find its useless to me!

    Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure the pump needs a Tech 2d at some point - I'm just not sure if that's out of the original car or into the new car - or both.

I'm sure Glynn has fitted a used PS pump to his car so he'll know for sure.
