Default Govt to give £2500 to scrap your old car when buying a new one.

This may interest a few of you, it looks as though the government will be giving £2500 if you scrap your car and buy a new one. Ministers are very keen on the idea which they believe will kickstart the car industry.

I assume it only applies to new cars, but it certainly will help swing the decision for those who may be considering buying a new car.

    edit..
On re-reading it appears its only for cars over a certain age, so it looks like a 9 year old vec will be worth £2500 as scrap value, while a 5 year old vec is worth even less if you sell it... hmmm... dont sound right to me. Though it may push up the prices on very old cars..lol

Its a great idea, but as you say how can they give £2500 for a 9 year old motor when a 5 year old one would be worth less..........

if you look at why they are doing it a bit closer a 9 year old car falls out side of current road tax emissions so if you have a car like my dad an Omega MV6 3.0 he pays £185.00 per year were as I have a 2005 1.9CDTI and pay £210, get rid of all older cars increase road tax even more government are on a win win situation

I dont think they are offering you 2500 for your car. You would still part ex your car at the dealer, but they would give you 2500 on top. This will help the Government by reducing CO2 levels maybe?

If you are paying £210.00 a year for a 1.9 cdti query the price with the dvla as you should be paying £145.00 for 12 months tax

Are there any facts to support this?

    confused

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...le/DG_10012524

As an add on to my posts above have a look at the above site. It seems that 19 inch wheels and auto boxes etc. can put your 1.9 diesel into the £210.00 per year group as they have a higher co2 output. Confusing or what?

Sorry if I have misled anyone.
