confused Power steering problem - need advise please

    Hi,

Not had any toruble with PS until today - on motorway.

Yellow steering wheel light on dash came on and suddenly and steering went heavy.

Got car picked up and am just looking at it now.

When I start it up most of the time the light is off and the PS pump can be heard running. However if I leave it for a few mins, the pump stops and light come on. Then another min or two and come back on again, this keeps repeating..... (this is with the car stationary btw)

I've checked PS fluid level - and is fine. Checked all the wiring plugs to the pump and the one to the rack - all seem okay and clean. Removed and re-insterted fuse F9 too.

The problem still happening - pump keeps switching on and off.
When the pump is running the steering works fine, and pump can be heard speeding up and slowing down so I dont think its a load issue with a bad rack for example.

Has anybody seen this before or know what it might be.

    Cheers
    Ant.

    Arrrrgghhh frustraiting!!

I've got the bumper off so the pump is accessable. It blips on and off just as it would if there was a loose connection but I've traced it all back and it's good. And I've wiggled / knocked every thing too...

Two big main power cables straight to battery, one wire to the sensor on the rack and another multiplug going into the car (to ECU i presume)
