    Default Windscreen chip

After driving for over 40 years I have got my first windscreen chip and not sure what to do. The car is new and while the chip is low down on the screen by the wipers outside it looks unsightly. Its about 3mm across but altogether its about 1cm as the screen has gone blue around it.

Do I just leave it or will the screen eventually go or do I get the insurance co to put in a new screen, do they do that for just a chip?

Sorry its probably a basic question but I just don't know the answer never having had one before

    Cheers

From when i had mine done a few years back! and relying on my fading memory! as long as the chip is no bigger the a £1 coin the chip can be repaired by pumping resin into it, very clever to be honest and as long as the chip is not in your direct line of sight you will hardly notice it!! best thing was there was nothing to pay as most insurance companies subsidise the treatment as it saves them forking out for a new screen!!

Had a small repair done by Autoglass back in June 2008 by one of their area supervisors who went to great lengths to explain in detail the procedure and how good it/he was.

January 2009 - repair failed, looks like the resin they put in it has come out. Need to get it done again as it's ruining the n/s wiper blade and leaving a streak mark on the swept area.

Chceck your insurance policy first, as some policies apply an excess or fault claim for any type of glass claim
If there is indeed an excess or fault claim and it is repairable, then it may be in your best interests to simply pay it yourself rather than produce your Comprehensive Policy document
However, the glass is not repairable, then making a claim will be cheaper, however again expect a fault claim to appear at the end of the policy

If your fully comp, get the insurance to sort it out. I had a chip in my Veccy window reported it at about three in the afternoon and the glass company came out the next day at ten!! Takes them about twenty mins to inject it or if its deemed to big or cracked then they will replace screen at a cost of around £60-£70 which is an excess for glass damage which has never counted against my no claims!!

Got a chip in my windcreen repaired last week, from the Autoglass adverts onte TV they make out you can hardly see it, its made no diffrence to my windscreen you can still see the chip, i guess it will stop it spreading but it can fail a mot as its in the wipers swipe, will have to catch some flies before MOT time
