my bonnet wont pop any more , the leaver part works (even though its a bit slack) but the spring does not seem to push it up (so it takes 2 to open it ) is this a common fault or is it just mine

it might need adjusting and some lube in the hole (OOERRRR MISSUS)
could be worse mate mine has snapped away from the cable and i need pliers to open it
oh no i lubed it all up and cleaned every thing its as if the spring has lost its boing lol
maybe too slack? i tightened mine up the other day in fear of this!
Mine was pretty dodgy like you're describing but it turned out to be the catch holding onto the thing on the bonnet making it feel like there was no 'pop' when you pulled the lever (I used to have to pull the bonnet up while the lever was operated). Lubing did the trick though, I got 'Er Indoors to pull the lever repeatedly while I sprayed it with WD40 and in no time it was sorted.
...worth a try.
If there is slack in the cable then it needs adjusting by loosening the screw that holds the outer cable to the slam panel. Slide the outer cable towards the battery side just enough to remove the slack, usually about 15mm. Then retighten the screw as tight as it was to undo it. Do it asap or the cable will fall out of the spring and then you are snookered.
do you need to remove bumper to adjust the cable? mine needs doing but wana find out exactly how to do it before i open it, as it is ready to just go all together.
No it's really easy. Just open the bonnet and its on the engine side of the slam panel. It is a three minute job and if you don't do it, it becomes a three hour + job.
