    Wink What Diesel?

    Hi All,

    We are looking at buying a Astra Diesel.

    Can someone please advise what diesel engine we chould go for?
    We would like to buy an astra, 2004 or newer.

    Manual,

    Any thoughts would be awesome.

    If you can get a 1.9 150 mate, you'll get the best blend of power and economy going. same engine as used in the Vectra, and does have it's known problems, so a garage with warranty would be a good idea if you can find one...

    Or if you want one that won't need £800 worth of work done at around 60k on the clock, you could buy a 1.7CDTi.

    Or go for the 1.9CDTI 8V with 120PS and better fuel economy also the 120 has less problems than the 150 (16V) but still nippy enough in its own way.

    1.7cdti, wouldn't touch a 1.9 with no warranty with a barge pole. Have to agree with ZS on this. I know there are more so therefor you hear more horror stories but still imo a bad bad engine!
    Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    Some of the astras had the 16V in both 120 and 150 versions. The later ones got the 8v units. Not sure when the change happened.
    Now I need a turbo to keep up!
