When I bought my SRi the steering wheel wobbled a bit when I was driving so took it to the stealers and they balanced the wheels AND adjusted the tracking, so it may not be just the balancing that needs looking at.

Just once. Somebody then recommended a place locally they knew what they were doing and they have all been perfect since. No Vibration at all.

not often, but did have issue once when i brought some cheap alloys for my old Cavalier SRi, never sat right on the hub, causing this, other time garage reckoned that i had a dodgy wheel, had front two done at ATS/KWIKFIT etc.. everytime perfect, took it to a local, Collins tyres in portsmouth, balanced on the car.. all four! SORTED. back two needed doing causing the wobble... worth try a local firm there more helpful i find.

it all depends on how the wheels are balanced, are they alloys or steel wheels?

I find any steering vibration even just a tiny amount unaceptable... really spoils the pleasure of the driving experience.
I had to have mine balanced twice after the last 2 new front tyres were fitted on my vec-c. After the first balance I waited about 1k miles before I had them done again, to give the tyres time to settle in, even new tyres are never 100% round according to the manufacturer's. After balancing the second time they were spot on at all speeds. Steering has been as solid as a rock since.

One thing I have noticed is that not all tyre fitters seem to know how to a fit a tyre properly, ie. to fit the tyre so the coloured spot which is the lightest point on the tyre is lined up with the valve, often resulting in larger weights than need to be fitted had it been lined up properly.

yeah, i had this problem. steering was shaking like crazy - at times.
most of the time it was alright, but when it started it'd carry on for miles.
had them re-balanced, and the problem disappeared.
seems like the vectra steering is very sensitive to wheel balancing issues.
never noticed it so much on other cars.
