i would have a guess that the newer one has a different cat to meet ever changing emissions laws.

It is because the gear ratios were changed slightly on the facelift cars for emmision's etc to make the car a little 'cleaner' at cruising speeds, but I ask 1 question.

Is anyone ever going to notice in a million years difference of 0.7 seconds?

But there is a positive, the older car is only VERY slightly quicker off the mark, but mid range the facelift car should be a little better as it has slightly longer gears.

even the facelift 1.9 150 is slower to 60 according to parkers, and that cant have any higher gearing in top because it is very highly geared anyway 0-60 8.8 compared to 9.5 for the facelift, but there is no difference on the non vvt 1.8!

My brother in law has pre-face 1.9 (150) and i have Facelift 1.9 (150) Both standard, both on similar mileage... Cant tell difference in driving either. Both 'pull' the same, both 'take off' the same.

That's not correct. Parkers must be wrong if they have that on the website.
The preface is 8.8 sec, facelift is 8.9 sec (remember to compare like for like - saloon/hatch to saloon hatch): -
    Vectra 2004 (pre-face): -

    Facelift Vectras: -

So in other words, no noticeable difference for 1.9 [150].

That's wrong too. They are both 8.1 seconds.

    2004 Vectra(hatch) 0-60 8.1 sec
    2008 Vectra(hatch) 0-60 8.1 sec

The estates are different, so remember to compare like for like.
