Unhappy Damn, I scratched my windscreen!

I scraped the ice off my windscreen today with a rubber edged scraper, I normally have a cover for the front but forgot to put it on.

Then while driving to work was gutted to notice that there are several fine lines scratched accross the surface of the windscreen.

They are quite fine, but catch the light and are really irritating.

There must have been grit stuck in the scraper, I only pulled the scraper accross lightly specifically to avoid this so am surprised at the damage.

Guys, can these be removed or improved somehow, I'm really p'd off with it?

    Yes they can.

There are many places that do this, most also do paintless dent removal etc.

Try a search in your local directory under dent wizzard or windscreen repairs.

They repaired a scratch in my old cars windscreen caused by a window wiper, sort of polished it out.

    Hope this helps.

Glass is very hard so you might need a rubbing compound like jewellers rouge. I would say the removal is more specialised than removing a swirl mark in the paint.

I have machine polished my windscreen and you would be supprised how little effect it had on it, you need a really good abrasive, then less and less abrasives untill the glass is clear again.. I suppose it all dependa on how deep the scratch is.
My dad had a sratch on the inside of a windscreen, it looked like a woman or man I suppose had caught it with a diamond ring. I would have said there was little to no chance of removing that scratch.

Thanks guys, I'm not that brave Ed, to be using abrasives, I'd end up making it much worse!

I had one on a previous car that was that bad I thought it was a crack. Went to Autoglass as they were the insurance contractors and they used a compound and 'rubbed' it out... Worth a try!

Thanks mate, I'm going to try some stuff from Halfords, if this fails, I'll give Autoglass a try.
