    Default egr and inlet manifold

vectra elite 1.9 deisel 150 estate 04 plate

just got the car from the garage, due to car+spanner and emissions lights on.
mechanic said egr at fault, took apart sure enough clogged solid. he gave it a clean to the car for a test drive and the lights are back

mechanic said give it a week to see if lights go away if not new egr required. (its ok warranty will pay for broke parts but not for cleaning and adjustment)

would it be worth cleaning the inlet manifold? he said that these can get really clogged up? anyone done it? how difficult?

    cheers

Before you fork out for new egr valves have a look at the existing thread.s on checking vacuum hoses and turbo feed pipes also clean your boost sensor housed in the inlet manifold all these cleaned and checked properly will make a world of difference.

    Default inlet manifold

hi just done mine, not too bad a job, need to remove water hoses from egr and injector pipes and bleed fuel system after cleaning but not too difficult if you take your time, longest part is cleaning everything up.

I bet the mechanic didn't drill the solenoid housing to remove the parts for cleaning. In my very recent experience, there's little point in cleaning the valve and intake unless you also take the solenoid apart and remove any corrosion, applying copper grease before you reassemble it.

I tried cleaning my EGR and having replaced it, it seemed to improve a slight bit but the problem reoccurred very quickly and the engine management light came on a few times. Sorting the solenoid and cleaning the MAF sensor has resulted in a transformation - the car pulls from low down, and does so better than I've known it to do since I bought the car last year.

    Default EGR Solenoid side cleaning

    This should resolve your problem.

I just found another great How 2 on cleaning the solenoid side of the EGR valve which is next on my list of things to do. Just wanted to share it with you.

And a handy little printable PDF too!

Thanks in advance to "Jon7278" for putting the How 2 together and
"cdti 150 SRi54 est" for the PDF.

If it's under warranty you might as well get a new EGR valve I have read on here somewhere that there is a modified EGV valve replacement part and a new set of gaskets that block off the EGR to the manifold slightly. Ask when they fit it to check to make sure you get the most recent parts.
