Default Qn on Cat D cars and prices... Would you?

Would you ever buy a Cat D recorded car if you'd actually seen the damage and knew what had happened to it?

I'm looking at a basic model Cat D Repaired '57' Vectra SRI 1.8, it has less than 10k on the clock and I've seen the damage it had before it was repaired. It was only light damage, wing, bumper, front panel, bonnet that needed to be replaced. No damage to suspension or steering, no airbags deployed etc...

So how much would you pay?

I'd consider buying, but only to keep long term, resale values on damaged reparables is peanuts (especially vectras!).

a cat D is for life, not just christmas...
seriously, what are you going to do with it when you want to sell it? you should tell people if you're selling it privately, and the trade will HPI it and kick you in the nuts if they'd take it at all.
plus, if it was ever subject to another total loss claim, the ins co would check, find out and pay you peanuts.

I'd buy a CAT D for a life long drive, so it would be really dead when I had finished with it. As everyone is saying, depends how long you want to keep it for.

    yes noproblem
i have bought cat d's before and repaired them, some had just glass damage and some body damage,it all depends how well it has been repaired,i have seen some shocking repairs to some cars.and some very good one's
as you have seen the damage before it was repaired then i would say yes,as long as you are happy with it but bid him in the ba**s and give him the patter about cat d(it will be on the log book) and the book value as it is on the list etc

good luck if you decide to go for it
