And am i on the understanding that once a key has been programmed to a car the only way it can been reprogrammed to match a different car is by resetting it in the original car first

so in simple terms can a 2nd key fob be reprogrammed to another car

Need to know asap plz as dont want to spen £30 on new 3 button key fob to find its a nice key chain

On the Vectra C, once a key (i.e. the transponder) has been programmed to the car (the immobiliser) it can't then be programmed to a different car (different immobiliser). Rich's key must have been a virgin one i.e. not programmed to a car.

I was under the impression it was the CAR that got programmed to accept the key's signal, not the key getting programmed to the car?

The keys come programmed from the factory, when they are programmed to a car it's the actual system on the car that is programmed to accept the new key code, I have succesfully bought secondhand keys off e-bay and added them to other cars. I have a friend who is a locksmith and he gets me the blanks from his supplier, they are quiet dear at the moment as they are only available from the original suppliers, about £5 for a H blank.
