    Default Gaming PC for £600?

My BIL is after a PC for games. Just the PC as he already has the monitor etc.

He's going to get someone to build it but is £600 enough for something that will do the job? Alternatively is there one out there off the shelf that anyone can recommend?

He works one month on, one month off and went to Korea yesterday so he's hoping to come back to one already built if it can be done for the price.

    Cheers.

Thats a fairly decent pc for the money, you could probably get better if you bought and built your self. The one above tho seams decent bang for buck. If you built your own you could probably have a 8xxx wolfdale rather than the 5300, also depends on what sort of games you want to play aswell as some games love a nice big high ghz cpu and others like a mixture of graphics card and cpu.

Out of interest. Why would you pay £600 for a pc to play games on, when you can get an XBOX360 or PS3 for half the price?
Are there games on the pc (presumably processor intensive ones?) that you can't get on a gaming console?

As the PC is more flexible for doing other stuff on besides gaming should he need it I'd guess...

My advice would be to pick up a copy of Custom PC and have a flick through the first few pages - they have a monthly updated series of computers built for varying budgets from 450 quid up to 2 1/2 grand using the best components they can get for that month...

TBH I don't know why it has to be a PC. He already has a PS3 but that's what he wants.

Thanks all. I'll point him towards this thread when we next chat on Skype.

£600 will get a nice PC for gaming.

It's easy to spend a hell of a lot more on the absolute top end graphics cards etc, but they're rarely worth it.

I put my PC together for about £400 about 6 months back and am very happy with it. Takes most games I can throw at it and only gets upset when I push graphics options etc up to full (which I don't bother doing often anyway as I simply don't notice the advantages!)

Agree with previous posts, spend £300 on a 32" screen for the PS3 for gaming and spend £300 on a craptop for PC stuff.

no contest m8 a pc will win hands down.
with a console you are limited to whats their.
a pc can be upgraded to the better parts straight away.
    like faster graphics,memory,cpu.
also can be overclocked to get the best out of what you got.

games on a pc are a must imo

Absolutely - agree 100%. Advantages of a console though, are that you know a game you buy for it will run at it's highest settings, and you don't have to worry about controller compatibility or the operating system crashing etc....

I Like the upgrade argument. I hadn't thought of that.
