Default Jumping Out Of 5th Gear (3.2 GSi)

Anyone else experienced this yet? I do high mileage so you might have this to come. I'm just under 120k on an '04 plate.

Started jumping out of gear when I lifted off the throttle real. Over the last couple of weeks it's got worse and now I have to hold it in 5th all the time.

    All other gears feel fine.

Noticed an inspection panel on the end of the gear box. Can I whip that off and just replace the sychro hub for 5th gear? Any one tried this? Anyone know where to get the parts?

Obviously I don't want to get a recon gear box if I can avoid it. Unless anyone's got a 6 speed off a VXR they want to sell and assuming they fit the 3.2 of course... :-)

    Cheers

I don't think the F40 will fit in place of the F35 (although they do look similar).

I don't suppose any one has a schema of the F35 gear box do they? Just so I can familiarise myself with what's in there before I take the cover off maybe at the weekend. A quick photo or scan of a page out of a manual would be great..

That's a shame, thanks very much for your efforts though. Very much appreciated. It's just behind that end cover that I need to see, the cover left most of the F35 picture.

IMO before you go diving into the box and the actual gears, look at the spring and ball detent that holds the gear selector in place on top of the gearbox - ie the forks and sliders have positions that are held by ball and springs into grooves on the moving parts. Easier, more likely, and less messy

This was basically the fifth gear syncro. The little ring I needed probably would have cost me £10/£15 quid. Instead I bought a second hand box for £350. So I've managed to keep it going for now, and it feels absolutely great again.
