home internet wireless question

i'm getting wireless broadband set up at home. my laptop shouldn't be a problem because it has inbuilt wireless. the desktop upstairs doesn't. it's running XP. can i just get a generic wireless adaptop dongle thing, like this, for example? and will it just plug in and work? - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Wireless-USB-2...1%7C240%3A1318

Yep, are you running Vista, XP.... some dongles only work with XP, make sure you check,

It will but you will need to set up the security on both comps to match.

just spoke to someone at work, he said it would be better to get a good dongle, not necessarily a cheap one, it may work better. he said it would be best to get one the same make as the router box [which is a 'thomson']. i looked on e bay just, but didn't see any made by them.

will work fine my brother connects to network at his using a wireless dongle gets normal speeds thru concrete walls.

come to think of it i dont think he paid me back for the dongle!!
