    Default Smoke from exhaust

Right i have had the car (06 CDTI 150) into the stealers twice now as when driveing on an evening and accelerating between 2500 and above i can see smoke in the headlights of cars behind me, stealers have said on both occasions that no faults are showing etc and they cant see smoke. No smoke is noticeable through the day it is just at night when i notice it, is this something i should be seeing or not as i was under the impression that there was meant to be no smoke whatsoever from diesels nowadays.

    Any ideas!!!!!!

In a word or two, Inlet manifold, swirl flaps stuck open = smoke at high revs... (think its that way round)

Have a search for Inlet manifold.

Also a possibility is EGR getting stuck and not reburning the gases?

I think i can rule out the EGR valve as they fit a new one in January when the car was suffering from a lack of power below 2500 revs, again with this they said there were no error codes etc so on the second visit to them after reading on here I told them it was possibly the EGR valve. They said as there was no error code it was'nt that but they ended up replacing it and problem cured, so now i need to know what to tell them to do this time .

I will search for inlet manifold, thanks.

several maufacuturers of diesels still smoke when under load/acceleration
audi/peugeot/citroen are a few that i have followed and noticed puff of smoke - i generally see i when coming off of a roundabout and onto a section of dual carriageway on my way home when there accelerating back upto the national speed limit.... i suspect yours is something similar especially if the stealers have returned no faults found

    hope this eases your concerns

As standard a 150 without being boxed or remaped there shouldnt be any visible smoke to speak of as such. Had this problem with mine, had the remap taken off, it was better, but could still see smoke when booting it. Had a new inlet manifold fitted (EGR cleaned up at the same time) and hey presto, smokeless...
