Default Buying a car bit of help regarding the V5

Going to buy my new Motor tomorrow
(ive defected back to an Astra, sorry still VX tho)
The seller has only got the green little slip off the V5 as he is awaiting the Logbook to return
What do i do? take the green slip? he said he will post the V5 to me when it arrive for me to alter but obviously i could hand over my cash and i dont really own it do i without a V5?

i bought mine with no v5 at all, but that was from a reputable auction house. if it is from a private sale then no way. ask if you can leave a small deposit so he will hold the car for you. iff he umms n arrs then just walk away. if hes genuine then he wont think twice. it should only take a week to come through anyway. mine took 3 weeks but the dvla had to contact the previous keeper first b4 they would transfer it into my name

Problem is the cars 200 miles away.
He has said i can have the green slip as ownership proof and then he will fill out the V5 when it comes through and he will post it to the DVLA.
Im sure ive done it this way before but its been about 4 yhears since my last private buy/sale

Never walk away without getting everything that should be with it or the advert says it comes with.
I was told my last car had full service history and receipts for everything but they were all at his house not the office. Said he would send it on never got them (unless they are still lost in the post)
I would walk away unless he can give it to you there and then

dead right. if he cant wait till he gets the v5 to sell it then hes either really desperate to sell it( in which case offer him silly money when he gets it) or hes a dodge pot. either way, i wouldnt take it without the v5

He has took the car in Px against his old car ive offered a low amount and with some haggling agreed a good price.
he has had the car for about 3 weeks which isnt long but i would imagine the log book isnt that far away.
I may tell him ill come for the car once the books came through
everything else is available Full VX History, Mot and reciepts also the green slip off the old V5 just not the new complete V5

Wait for the V5 as it will cost you to get a new one and what incentive does he have to send it to you once he has the money

Why would it cost me to get a new one? If i have the little green slip i thought that acted as ownership until the V5 came through. Or do you mean in respect to that he may never send it back/off and i have to apply for a new one

exactly unless you know the guy ie friend. Call me sceptical but I cant see you ever getting it. You will then have to go through the rigmarol of applying for a new one. Not sure whether he could report it stolen or not as the car has been applied to be registered in his name not yours and therefore the green slip belongs to him
