Loud clunk/bang on full lock!!

Hi all,

looking for some advise on what this may be. Generally when parking in the street (therefore on full lock or thereabouts) I get a loud clunk/bang and the steering wheel vibrates slightly. It is just for a split-second but is obviously causing me distress, esp as I've just forked out for a new gearbox, clutch and flywheel!!!! They did something with the steering column (a minor repair at the time) as well.

Any body have an idea of what it could be and how much? Its a 52 2.2 elite if it helps?

Don't know if you've had any joy with this yet ,it does sound like the bearing on the front upper mountings goosed,easyish repair.

If the noise happens when you're turning the wheel and sounds a bit like a spring, it could be the spring unseating itself,do a search for "spring seat mod",that'll explain it a bit better,HTH.

good point tyreman. The spring could be jumping around when on full lock.

Id go with tyreman, sounds like the spring twisting in its seat, which eventually leads to it breaking in the same position.

Get the car jacked up, and do a full lock turn. If you stay out of the vehicle and watch it, you should be able to identify it easier
