According to the handbook, it's a fault that may damage the catalytic converter. Consult a workshop, yada yada yada.

    Vehicle : Vectra

    Trim : LS

    Engine : 2.0 DTI

    Year : 2003

    Mileage : 150000

    Default Flashing Spanner

I have a VX 2003 and my spanner light used to come on and then would rectify itself. Initially the dealers couldn't identify the fault and kept clearing the error log. But spanner light kept coming on, eventually they found the fault with the instrument panel. One of the pins on the connector was intermittently loosing contact. In my case they replaced the whole instrument panel.

Just a thought, The dealer mentioned to me that there is a fsoot filter on the newer diesels that needs cleaning. If you only do short distances or town driving, there is a warning light that flashes to advise you to do a long journey of 50mph for 30 minutes, so that the exhaust can get to a temperature to burn off the soot. This sounds like what has happened to yours...
