Default Alternator light on - In to the stealers tomorrow

Driving home from work on Friday and the Alternator light is on constantly whilst moving. Car drove fine but after only having her for a month was a bit disappointed. Shes booked into the dealers in South Wales thats recommended on here so hopefully it will get sorted under the warranty. Ive read there was a recall for some alternators, if it hasnt had this will they just do it? or has a deadline been missed etc?

Any ideas on what the issue could be? Car is a 07 1.9 CDTI (150).

Will post when I know whats going on.

Common fault i believe, mine packed in at 35.000 miles. You shouldn't have a problem getting it sorted.

very common. i don't know anyone who hasn't needed a new alternator for these. never known anything like this before on other cars, it's a complete joke, to be honest.

So it should be covered by the warranty? Got another 5k before I hit the 60k limit. Safe enough to drive it the 30 miles to the dealers?

When mine went there was no warning at all, lost power steering and couldn't drive the car at all. Just make sure your battery is charged before you drive it, i.e. use a battery charger the night before.

hmm, that might be pushing it. it'll only run until the battery goes flat.
i did a ten mile journey with no alternator, and it was ok - but i don't think i'd chance a 30 mile journey without some backup.

Well I made it...just! Power steering packed in as I pulled into the forecourt! Seem like a decent bunch at Hutchings HQ in Trefforest so will see what they say. Put her in for a full service too, £180 ouch!

£180 is a bargain.. my old Land Rover was well over £300.. and my last VX service was about £220 (2nd year)??
