Thumbs down Auto Express Car Depreciation

Just been reading this months Auto Express , There are plenty of new stuff coming out .. Even a 4x4 veccy

But thats not the real reason ive started this thread ....... depreciation is the reason and Auto Express are saying that they have an accurate account on a near to true estimate on a cars real value after 3 years , and its NOT good reading

    for instance :-

    vectra VXR 2.8 turbo ...new price £24,040 .. retained % after 3 yrs .. 30%

    mondeo st220 .............new price £ 24,345.. retained % after 3 yrs .. 35%

    Golf R32 .....................new price £24, 240.. retained % after 3 yrs .. 54%

diesels are better but still quite poor

    vectra 1.9 cdti 150sri.....new £17,875 ...........retained % 35 %

    mondeo 2.2 st tdci 155 . new £22,600 ...........retained % 38 %

    Golf 2.0 tdi 140 gt .........new £18,100 ...........retained % 52 %

    vectra 2.0 t ...................new £17,870 ...........retained 31%

    mondeo 2.0 titanium x.......new £20,325 ...........retained 30%

    golf2.0 t fsi gti ................new £20,360............retained 47%

    porsche boxter 2.7....32k.......retains 67%

All good news to me: if i can get a three year old VXR for £7200 (+ stealers margin) then I'll be a very happy OilBurner indeed! I try not to think about the trade in too much...

My SRI had already lost 50% of new value after just over a year - but then who ever pays full list price? So it didn't really lose that much, the fleet probably got it for a song anyway. Pity the poor ******* who does pay full list on a Vectra though...

i saw that too but i only paid 64% of my cars new price when it was eight months old so that tells me i can keep it for a couple of years plus and lose less than half my money. seems ok to me in the grander scheme of things, just don't buy new!!
