The breather pipe that comes from the head feeds oil vapour into the intake manifold using the vac caused by the intake. If you look at your throttle body you will see it covered in crap, most of this is from the breather pipe. You put a catch tank in between the breather and the intake to "catch" all the oil and stop it chocking up your intake. Due to emissions this vapour has to be burnt off so just venting it to atmosphere is not really advisable. Not to sure on the 1.8 but on the 2.2 the really do there job as 2.2 TB's get really covered in crap. HTH

cheers I was mid post. If I fitted one it wouldnt do any harm and although not as effective as on higher spec it would still serve a function - to a degree

Yes mate, but not much, have a loo at your TB butterfly and behind it, if there is loads of crap then bang one in. Its not going to do any harm. Guys make them out of coke bottles.

Throttle body butterfly mate. All they are is a container with an input at the top and another input at the top again. The vapour comes in, liquids drop to the bottom of the bottle/tank and the vapor is drawn off at the top. Most tend to have a visual inspection slot in the side, a bit like a kettle to see how much oil is in there and when to empty.
