was given it as a pressent from the in-laws and iirc it was in the region of £250.00 ish

yes mate, a sony interface from car electronic's will be the best option

I reckon about £120 for the Sony CDX-RA650 & £50 for the sony cdx-gt300s

Well eBay wasn't much use! Just did a search for completed listings on that model (Sony CDX-RA650). Two results came up but they didn't sell as they had no bids on them! - one had a starting bid of £100, the other a tenner.
