confused Car with a spanner through it????

    Vectra C 04, cdti 150 deisel estate

Hi all, was driving home and an icon, car with a spanner through it came up on the display. i take it this is a service indicator?? it didn't say a mileage though? Do i have to do something NOW?

I have been reading through some posts and it seems that i will have to find out if i have a DPF, does this narrow the choices of oil i put in?
The car was owned by a lease company, then sold to a garage and then to me, i would like to think that the lease company garage would use the right oil, but the car was serviced by the garage i bought it off a year ago. if they used any old oil would this damage the car? How often is oil changed required?

Where is the oil filter on the vectra?

    cheers

No, the car with a spanner through it is a fault indicator (someone correct me if I am wrong)

The service light is an oil can with a spanner through it.!!

Yes the spanner means that it is time for a service.

No you don't have to do it immediatly but anytime soon would be a good idea

I put 5W-30 into mine (i have 1.9 CDTI 150 as well) that is what Vauxhall specify.

If they have put a lower grade oil in the car and you put a higher (better) grade in now it won't damage the car, it's only when you put a lower grade in when it's already had a higher (better) grade that you will start having problems.

I think Vauxhall recommend every 15k you should do the oil and filter.

Oil filter is located on the very back of the engine. (as you face the car from the front)

Got them mixed up, sorry. I've just found it in the manual and then you've posted it up. Nice one

I had this a little while back, thought it was my service interval light. I had a full service done on it and it went away. (full service included new fuel filter and full drain) However, it wasn't always on it would only come on when i turned the ignition then go out when i started the car

On earlier Vectra-C's, yes. Mine however displays the word InSP in the odometer display briefly when the key is first turned when a service is due (2006 Vectra Elite)
