Thumbs up Anyone work in a dealers? look here please

I have been building a kitcar for the past 6 years, taking my time, building it to a high standard and just enjoying the build as much as i look forward to driving it.

I recently found out that the SVA test is being scrapped so i need to get it tested asap to ever get it on the road.

The application went in today (closing date is friday!)

On the application they wanted the age of the engine for emmisions testing.

The engine was removed from a H reg Calibra a few years ago. I never had the V5 as it was getting stripped b y someone else and i just wanted the engine. I have a receipt for the engine but no proof as to its age

It has 90 stamped into the cam casing when you look in the oil filler and the engine number starts 20XE

According to my research the 20xe was superceeded by the C20XE in '92.

I NEED to prove the engine is pre 1995 and doesn't need a cat, or they will have to test it to the latest standards.

If anyone works in a dealers and is happy to do me a letter head stating that an engine with 20XE stamped on it is deffo a pre 95 engine then i would be mucho grateful and will cross your palm with beer tokens.

I am pretty desperate as my test will be coming up in a few weeks and i need to take proof to the test so that they test it correctly.

Thanks in advance and i'm sure someone will be able to help.

More than one would be really good and make my case easier to plead with him.

I have tried contacting GM direct, but they want the chassis number which i don't have and cannot get. They are generally unhelpful when i call.

the full engine number should be enough as vauxhall can tell the date of manufacture from this,i used to work for a vauxhall dealer,a dealer cannot tell the age of an engine

Thanks for the replies, I just need to gather a good bit of evidence to show the examiner. If i can get Vaux to be helpful and send me a letter then thats a winner. From other peoples experiences dealing with them though, it's like getting blood from a stone.

If he wants a new plate he has no chance unless he uses brand new shell.

if he has a shell that has a log book, he just sends off for a new one with the new engine number and keeps the same reg number.

if the block says 20xe on it and not c20xe then thats proof on its own m8 as the c stands for cat, if the c aint on the block then is a pre cat engine, hope that helps m8

problem is the sva and mot stations wont take this as gospel,i found out this when i fitted an engine out of a 1989 cavalier into a 1995 cavalier.you must use the letter from a garage or manufacturer to confirm the age of the engine, most dealers wont write the letter because of liability issues
