    Default 2.8t Elite test drive

    Hi Guys,

I currently have a 97 vectra 2.0 cdx and have decided its time for an upgrade! Today i test drove a vectra 55 reg 2.8t elite. The car has a massive spec and is in superb condition. The problem is the ride wasnt as smooth and quiet as i was expecting. There seemed to be a bit of a rumble from the back of the car when i was driving it. The salesman said it was a bit noisy because of the 18" wheels. Is this what i should be expecting?

    Thanks,

    Paul

18" wheels will make the ride harsher, you could always but it and swap the wheels?

if they are factory 18s it has the sri suspension, not the softer suspension of a standard elite. i find mine noisy, even after fitting £100 worth of sound deadening in the boot and under the rear seats, and lots of fluffy type stuff in the boot, under the seats, in the rear cubby holes and even under all the floor mats. buying an elite may be similar price to an entry level c-class, but you do not get the same build quality

18's are a disaster on UK roads. 17's are bad enough.

Come back 14" steelies, all is forgiven.

I agree the ride is slightly harder with the 18" wheels and the uprated suspension but I do not consider mine very noisy, in fact I think its quieter than my wifes 2001 Vec B 2.2 CDX and it goes a lot quicker.

road noise is normally all about tyres. cheap rubber - expect road noise. sounds like bearings... but usually isn't.

check out tyre reviews before you buy if you're worried about it.

my NCT5s handled crap - but were quiet. the gsd3s are ace handlers but now it sounds like both my rear wheels are about to fall off on some roads lol! i just live with it though! i'd sacrifice road noise for better handling anyday

Ahh i see. thanks for that guys. it would be a shame to change the wheels as they do look really good. Heres the link to it on autotrader. its the one for £8695 and 15000 miles: http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk...keywords=elite

Do you think its good value for money?

it's a very nice looking car BUT i do think it's a tad on the high side even with that mileage. It's a buyers market especially for large engined cars!
