    Default Job Losses Close call

500 People at vodafone without jobs.
How this makes sense baffles me?
One of the departments wiped out contained people who had been there the longest, dealt with some of the highest spending customers and thus were the most knowledgable
Only 6 months ago I moved departments am I ever glad I did. But cant help but feel sorry for the people out on their ear.

you tend to find that when redundacies come, there doesn't always seem to be a rhyme or reason behind who they let go of.

That I do know. We have the same at our place. Where they get the idea of who they get rid of I fail to see. Like getting rid of skilled tradesmen. To me if you loose your skilled workers you loose the company in the end.!! But they will just say. The job losses are right across the board. Cost savings. That will save the company and keep it profitable.

especially when they offer voluntary redundancy so all the folk with loads of years or service jump ship because they get a huge severance packaged based on the year's they've been there. leaving all the newbies behind to try and cope

..and probably the higher paid employess? - so to some bean counter it makes 'perfect sense' to bin 500 jobs to save how ever many millions instead of having to bin more employees to save the same amount. Then they're left with the employees that are cheaper to employ. Downside is that us customers - yep, I'm with Vodafone! lol - then get some halfwit on the end of the phone going by a 'customer service by computer program' instead of a more knowledgeable person who's learnt over the years and could've sorted your problem/query quickly and correctly.

Stupid thing is that some of the people have been offered very high severance payouts ie enough to keep them going for at least a year.
Its a shame as working there for over 5 years I have to say in comparison despite a few bad apples we have a pretty good crew in stoke. They have started to outsource a lot of it though which can cause problems as they just dont have the same devotion as a proper employee

Theyve also been offered jobs at another centre about 45 mins away. I think a lot of people are taking taht option as they fear the same
