confused Who has developed the Insignia diesel ?

    Hello there !

Does anyone know who has developed/manufactured the new 2.0 CDT diesel engines in Insigna ? Are they from FPT (Fiat powertrain) as the “Vectra diesel”, or is it a brand new GM developed engine ?

I believe they are a development of the existing GM/Fiat collaboration built in Germany.

yes they are a development of the fiat engine, but they are not 2 litre though as they are only 46cc bigger than the old 1.9,1910cc v 1956cc so it is realy a 1950 not a 2 litre, also all insignia engines are 16v,the 8v engine has been dropped

The 2.0CDTi is developed by an Italian manufacturer VM motors which is partly owned by GM. This power plant is also used in Hyundai. Already it proves to be more refined than the 'old' Fiat engine.

no it is not, that engine is fitted to the antara and the chevrolet range, completly different to the engine fitted to the insignia, which is a fiat based engine, insignia is 1956cc,the vm engine is 1991cc which does look like a developemet of the the old 2.0dti vectra/astra engine (16v single cam)
also insignia is twin cam 16v ,vm engine single cam 16v,there is not a single component that is the same

Not according to thier website - unless they have not updated the website. GM do have a 50 % share and did supply Opel for the Frontera.

You are correct. It is not a VM motor this time. It turns out its the new Fiat Multi Jet engine also used in one of the most beautiful cars in the world :

i used to work for a vauxhall/chevrolet and saab dealer do i did do a comparison between the engines, the engine used in the frontere was also used in the rover sdi and rangerover in 2.4 form, and as a 2.5 in the chrysler voyager, the engine used in the antara and the chevrolet range looks very similar to the old 2.0dti engine and is completly different to the fiat based engine used in the vectra and insignia, these engines are virtualy identcal, this coppied from the vm motori wikepedia site,
    "
GM Daewoo has licensed the 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre common rail engine designs, and built a dedicated engine plant, which started production 2006. The 2.0 L diesel is used in the Captiva/Antara/Winstrom, the Lacetto, and the Epica."

as to ownership GM do not own 50% of vm,gm own just under 25% of vm as penske sold 50% of chryslers stake to gm,but is still subject to european approval
