    Default Brake light problem

I have got a warning message - check right brake light.

I have checked it, and the wrong light is coming on. On the estate, the outside lights are the brakes. This is what is happening on the nearside, but on the offside, it is the inside light coming on (the one on the boot lid, not on the rear wing).

    Any thoughts ?

the car has a system where if a brake bulb goes then another light takes it's place and works as the brake light - on the estate it must be the light in from the brake light. Once you replace the brake bulb then it'll go back to normal.

I bet the light that is now lite up is one of the side lights on the tail gate. All the bulbs on the rear are 21watt, and are dimmed down to 5watt if they are a side light. But as said about will be subsituted as a brake light (21watt) if needed. All cleaver stuff.

Ed - you are right - the 'temporary' brake light is the side light on the tailgate. It is clever isn't it !

    Next job = new bulb.

    Thanks for your replies

Use the non working rear fog light bulb. It's there to be used as a spare.

Thought I had a rear fog light out as only the right hand side works. Reading the manual and Big Daves coment looks like only the offside fog light is suposed to work. Strange having a light fitted but not active.

You only need one working rear foglight for an MOT.

Discussed many times here. Only one wired up so as not to totally obscure and lessen the view of the brake lights for anyone following you.
