Engine Oil

Just been informed by VX that the oil that goes in my engine is extra life and £10 a litre, what is this stuff and can it be bought cheaper.

It's 5w30 oil GM-LL-x-025
Providing the oil meets that specifcation then you can use any supplier
Ironically, the GM stuff is usually cheapest
5 litres from the Parts Department will cost you about £30, so best to buy that and supply it yourself at servicing

Not sure what engine is in your SRi but if it is a 3.0 V6 CDTI then you will need 2 bottles and for any other engines best buying two anyway
The spare you can then use for topups until next service

Just had oil and filter changed in my 1.8, takes 4.5 ltrs. 5 ltrs cost me £33 from stealers

Yip, you will need two for the 2.0T
However, it would be prudent to purchase two as you can then use the second one for topups; cheaper than buying single litres until the next service

Most of the engines will only need one 5 litre pack

You will then need two 5 litre packs for
