Default The next strange thing to happen

    History:

Car broke down after not revving, AA man said DPF
VX said EGR, changed and then said DPF
Part ordered, but car would drive upto about 3k rev
Spanner light comes on but drives ok, in safe drive-home mode
Workshop tech said may regen if 45min 3k is achieveable

Wednesday: took it for a spin, 30 min 3k revs, still spanner

Friday: when I arrived home from work (a 20 minute journey at 30/50mph) I could smell burning, so I looked under the car and the DPF was glowing red! like a neon tube red!

Saturday: I could drive the car at any revs and no spanner light only problem is, there is still a fault as the mpg is now mid 20's and when i put my foot down and rev upto 4k, its down into single figures so it'll still have to go back in to be looked at but suspect they won't know what to do as theres no spanner light to diagnose fault code

Any ideas on the low mpg? is the DPF still knackered? is it the lam.sensor? the egr needs a clean?

    Any help gratefully received!

Stands for diesel "particulate" filter. Filters out particles of carbon.

how many miles the vehicle done? suspect particulate needs topping up between 70k and 90k dependant on if you shrt fill your car.

if the fulid has been run dry or the particulate filter was blocked/clogged
then there is a possibility the filter would need to be replaced as it sounds like the forced regeneration has not worked

70k on the clock, 55 plate

topping up? how does that work then? what fluid?

I'm getting confused! I thought the ceramic filter (DPF) was used instead of some fluid having to be added?

the way most particulate filters work is like a honey trap
every time you open/close your fuel filler flap a quantity of particulate fluid is added to the filter - this causes the carbons to stick to the interior of the cannister which are subsequently burnt off at high temps to reduce the amount of emissions your car produces
hopefully you find this info helpful
