    Default EGR Flow fault?

    1.9 CDTI 150.
Car has been standing for a week, and when started today it threw up a code.
    P0400 Generic EGR flow malfunction.
Cleared the code but keeps coming back, is it time to strip the EGR valve and clean it?
Or am I looking at something else?

I had that same code appear on my old 56 plate 150 vec, and yes a replacement EGR (under warranty in my case) fixed it.

If the cars out of warranty, I would certainly use the forums excellent How-2 and give it a clean first, could save you a bit of money.
Probably full of deposits and stuck for the very reason its been standing a few days.

Stripped, freed off, cleaned, lubed and re-fitted in less than an hour.
And what a difference it has made.

Great write up on the how 2.

Even if the computer isnt saying a fault / dirty valve could it still need a clean. I have a 2004 2.2dti Elite and I get an occassional bad smell into the car and its been suggested that the EGR valve could be causing the problem.

Was it as simple as the how to guide says?
even for a chap who never tinkers arround under the bonet apart from adding water and cleaning.

It's worth checking it, but as to how easy it is to do someone else better answer that as I am an engineer so it was a doddle to me without reading all the guide.
I would say it's possible for anyone to do it, just take your time and if you get stuck, post on here and someone will advise you.

Mine was siezed solid and thats why the error code was flagged up asit wouldn't open at all.
I think you would get restricted movement at first and that will cause enough problems.

Copper grease - anti sieze compound.
The egr itself will probably be free moving, it's the shuttle inside the solenoid that sticks.
