I could be wrong but isn't that a sign of the water and oil mixing. Or the mixing of two different grades of oil.

I'm sure someone will be along with a definate answer for you soon though.

I think its called..emulsification..older fords and rovers suffered with it and I think its caused by condensation in the engine ??. I maybe wrong so dont take this as gospel. If it was my car Id pop into the dealer and get it checked over..having said that I know some one with a mazda rx8 with the wankel engine which has this problem and the mazda dealer said it was o.k.......

    Rob W..

From your picture i can see you run a 3.2..

I had this emulsification on the filler cap, so I asked my mate at VX luton about it.. He said that it's because the filler neck is so long on the 3.2 as against the 2.5/2.6. The oil vapour doesn't get as hot by the cap as it's 3 inches above the heat source, so when the atmospheric moisture mixes with the oil vapour it doesn't burn off..leaving 'mayonaise' on the filler cap but not over the inside of the cam covers.. Most 3.2's have this prob..long hard runs are the only way to get it hot up there.. I just wipe mine occasionaly..

So no head gasket failure..Just poor design..If you don't like it fit a front bank cam cover from a C25XE..the filler is accessable and close to the engine..

I have the same problem with my 3.2 but i do a lot of short runs, so the engine is not getting hot.

Yes that is all it is short journeys, if you give your car a good run on the motorway it will do it the world of good and remove that emulsified gunge, I get it on my 3.2V6 too, but it gets rid of it when it has been on the motor way, it should not do any harm.

Default creamy residue on oil filler cap and neck

I was going to post a new thread as I have noticed this recently. I've only had the car a couple of weeks and noticed the creamy sludge on the oil filler cap and thought that the head gasket might be going. The dipstick is clean as are the cams that I can see, and there is no sign of oil contamination in the water. The garage did a service and said that it was probably condensation (made worse by short journeys) and not to worry about it. I have since covered another 700 miles and the scum has returned. Glad I found this thread. I can relax now.
