Fold the seat forward and then push it back firmly into the latches. Mines did this too and it just wasn't latched properly. Worth a try.

    Exclamation

Mine's also jammed, just this afternoon on a tip run - with the seat down... can't put it back up or release the belt enough to free the mechanism. I' tried parking forwards and backwards on various steep hills, to see if it would free up. I can see the mechanism once I've unclipped the plastic guide - is there a reset lever or something like that?

The seat is very forward already! I've unclipped the plastic guide, then the fabric - the back panel looks like it is glued to the metal seat frame though - no clips or similar to just pop out. There's also the ski hatch and headrest mounts that get in the way...

Assuming I get through it all, what am I looking for??

Right, just been and dismantled the seat to fix this one - but it's still not fixed. At least I've got the seat back up, and the belt functions, but the saga starts over the next time I drop the backs, so all I can guess is the mechanism that locks the belt when the seat back release handle is pulled is somehow broken. It still retracts when the seat is tipped - I can hear a quiet 'ratchet' noise as the seat back moves forward which is presumably the locking mechanism not locking as it should. I can now transport the whole family once more, but will have to get it fixed at service/MOT in about a month's time.

Okay, FWIW here are some pictures to 'fix' my version of the problem... Remember I'm starting with a seatbacdk that's down, and the centre belt retracting to prevent the seat from returning to upright.

    Here's the OSR seatback clip/hinge:

Use something to lever the inner spring-loaded clip and pull the seatback up:

Pull seat back past the side bolster and towards the door:

    Withdraw the centre hinge pin:

Lift the seat base upwards past the lower bolster edge - gives just enough spanner room:

Remove the retaining nut - the only thing in my set that fitted was a 12mm sparkplug socket - long enough to avoid fouling on the bodywork stud:

The seat back is now fully removed, and in my case the belt continued to retract, right to this point:

Key stage - Refit the seat at this point, locked into place to ensure smooth belt operation - pull out the entire length and find some place or way of jamming the belt util the job's done:

Repeat the steps to remove the seat back once more - the mechanism is jammed so shouldn't retract further.

Refit the seatbelt, taking care not to twist the belt by mistake:

Job done? Nope, but at least I can shut the boot off properly - next move is down at the dealers in the next few weeks...

After searching through the threads, this one for me worked fantastically. The pictures speak a thousand words and the job only took 10 minutes.
    many thanks Mr T
