    Default test drove vec vxr

as above test drove my first vxr today and have to be honest i was nt that impressed!! dont get me wrong its an awesome car and i love the interior and especialy the noise, its just that i was expecting a lot more performance it was a 56 plate is that the one with 250 bhp it drove lovely though and for 11000 pound with just 10000 miles quite a bargain. just thought it would have been a lot more urgent!!!!!!!! anyone else driven one have any opinions....

Have been told that a lot about the 250 version.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

That was 11K for a 56 plate? Thats a bit steep. Theres a 07 plate with colour nav on Autotrader for that money (would be a 280 model).
In fact theres a 56 plate for only 9K on there. For that money, your better to get a 280. No point in paying £400+ tax on a 255 model .

Try a 280, you will probably be more impressed.

Thing about the V6T is the power delivery is totally smooth. Compared to a 150 CDTi it probably will feel slower, because you don't get that diesel torque shove.

Once you get the V6T up the revs and singing you'll find the high side of 120 comes very, very quickly.

Only the old 55plate models are cheaper road tax.

I was very impressed with the 255 vxr when I test drove it but I was used to a vec b 2.5 v6.
Just look at the speedo it may not feel fast but you soon get up to the speed limit.

I find the VXR, under whelming. It does not feel that quick, but the car is really moving.

When I had a 255 version for the weekend, I took a friend for a play up the local bypass and he said to me it did'nt that impressive until he reaslised that the Golf R32 that was following us was being left behind at a rapid rate of knotts!

Thats what I love about the Vectra VXR, feels slower than it actually is!

That's the same with all Vectras though, you think you're crawling until you realise the scenery is going past very quickly. Ultimate motorway cruiser.

It's unfortunately a problem with many cars-they don't feel 'fast' until you're doing highly illegal speeds. The diesels are much better in that respect, because the useable power is lower in the rev range and makes the car 'feel' quicker than it actually is.

A VXR was recently sold at a dealership near me.It was a '56' IIRC with low mileage and was sold for £8,500!

A major off-put to me buying the car (even though I do low miles) was that the fuel computer was showing average consumption to be IIRC 18mpg!
