    Default Insurance Rant!

As with all my cars, I declare every modification to my insurance.

So I rang Esure yesterday, with whome I have been with for many years and told them about my exhaust, rear spoiler and soon to be front spoiler.

They wanted £84 extra on my premium, which although high, I was happy to pay to keep things on the level. But my accident excess went from £350 to £600!!!!

The reason they say is that the car is more desirable to theft. So I aks what my theft excess was............No change, so that does not make sense. I also mentioned the FACTORY FITTED 19" wheels, AFL, roof rails and parking sensors. Oh that'll be another £65 please sir.

They have had a change of policy that factory fitted items have to be declared and they will charge more.

I explained that I had a 3.0 V6 Elite Signum before with the same body mods and my excess was unchanged and they told me that depending on which under writer you speak to defines what changes happen to your policy, so no fixed rules then.

So onto the phone to Norwich Union, they allow me to have 3 modifications without changing the premium in a big way.

They made a note of the factory options but said they would not be classed as modifications.

However, the factory option 19's would be noted on the policy as one of the modifications to ensure they get replaced like for like in the event of an accident, but did not charge any more for this. So happy with that.

So that left me with 2 mods left, with the exhaust being one, I have the rear spoiler, soon to be front spoiler and the VXR skirts.

There advice was to put down that the car has the complete bodykit as one modification and add the bits as and when I get them. RESULT!

Also they were now over £100 cheaper than Esure with everything declared.

Rant over and feel much better!

I need to change over from swift, they seem to not allow much in the way of mods.

Just having the Plus pack on my Exclusiv jacked the prem by £100... t5he insurers said abt 50% of all drivers fail to declare factory options, and whilst they'd not refuse to pay out (unlike with an undeclared performance mod), the replacement would be completed to std spec.

that is the problem,if you put the car back to standard you will get your 19" alloys,as these are what is listed on the options list, mine is in the same boat as i have 18" factory fit alloys (unless you have a sri,gsi or vxr did you declare your lowered suspension?),on vauxhalls epc the production options list will show what is fitted to the car from the factory not what it would have had originaly if bigger wheels were not asked for

I'd recommend Adrian Flux. I've had my classic Mini Cooper with them for years. My Vectra 1.8 Exclusiv was around 180 pounds. Got house insurance with them and 2 dogs - and no... I don't work for them.
