Default Video Capture Card (VHS-DVD) help

Hi my parents have boxes n boxes for home videos (family ones before anyone comments!)

Ive brought a video capture car for few quid off ebay like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-2-0-VIDEO-...1%7C240%3A1318.

I transfered/captured 1.5 hours of home film and it turned out to be 88GB what!!!!!! that was in avi????

I tried vcd but ive lost loads of quality? 1 min was about 10mb iirc

Has anyone used this method or have another better method?

Was trying to keep cost as low as possible really. £140 is alot especially if only going to use it a few times. The pockets are tight at the moment

I think this would be the only way. I does mean you have to run the video but you should get a couple on one DVD disk. Try it first on a RW first for a minute or two to see you have it set up ok..

I use a Hauppauge PVR350 for mine, it comes out at about 2gb per hour in mpg2 format. It's an older pci based card but you can get newer ones in usb (although the may be software encoders so you'll need a bit of grunt)
