    Default Clutch judder

Hi guys. I noticed that some members have had their clutch and flywheel changed under warranty. Just been to my local stealer for the hand brake recall. Told them about the clutch and after waiting 3 hours i was told that they had done the handbrake and that the clutch is faulty. They then told me because the car is two and a half years old and that it has done 20000 miles that I will have to pay £277 for them to remove the gearbox to check for a manufacturing fault. If they decide its a warranty job I dont pay. Otherwise £2000 for repairs. I just wondered if this is common stealer practice.

I had the same issue last month. Warranty expired 06/02/09 advised the dealers by e mail the week before christmas and they just booked it in and got on with it...no hassle...known fault. My car was a 1.8 2006 facelift with 20,150 miles.

One thing tho....allow TWO days for the job,,,My Main dealers where fantastic and gave really good service and the mechanic rang me the day it went in and said that Vauxhall allow 9 hours for the clutch but to be safe could they have it two days to to the job properly.

    I paid nothing...but it was Network Q

I'd Ring Vauxhall Customer Service and see what happens bearing in mind the low mileage

they have to tell you that there may be a charge or you would be p***ed off if they worked on the car and then charged you because it was not a warranty job, dealers do get a lot of ownwers/drivers who abuse the clutch and that is down to the owner to replace, there will be signs of abuse on a low mileage car

Hi rang Vx earlier told me that it was normal for the stealers to charge labour to remove the gearbox to inspect the clutch/dms. Problem is that if I have the box removed and they say that the fault isn't covered by the so called warranty it's going to cost a fortune either to replace the clutch/dms or just replace te gearbox.

they wont actualy charge you labour to remove the box if it is a warranty job,the dealer will normaly warn you that there could be a labour charge if the work is not covered under warranty, basicaly they will need your permission to proceed

I can understand that but I think its a bit like blackmail to charge 3 hours labour at £80 an hour plus vat to inspect it, then if its not a warranty job they have me by the short ones because it would be pointless telling them to put it back together and then taking it to my local man who is vx trained and charges £15 an hour. Have you any idea of the cost of clutch and dms?
